Even
though you see tarps used in a number of ways at homes, offices,
warehouses, farms and other places, most of the time, you may not
realize that there are different varieties of tarps used for
different purposes.
To
most people, tarps mean canvas tarps (the ones that you might find on
outdoor tents) or simple poly tarps (the blue sheets that you find
covering almost anything from trucks and boats to goods being
transported). The fact is, there are different kinds of tarps
including polyethylene tarps, canvas tarps, steel tarps, mesh tarps
and valance tarps. These different varieties have been developed for
different applications. For instance, steel tarps are not really made
of steel, any more than mesh tarps are made of wire mesh. Mesh tarps
are made of polyethylene threads but have been weaved like a mesh so
that they can perform certain specialized screen-like functions such
as keeping a pool clean, providing garden shade etc.
Valance
tarps are yet another variety of tarps that you would mostly find in
canopies on the roofs. These kinds of tarps are almost exclusively
designed for high roof canopies. You may have noticed tarpaulin
canopies that fit perfectly on the roof and have a small overhand on
the four sides. These are valance tarps.
Valance
tarps are somewhat similar to regular tarps. Just like regular poly
tarps, valance tarps are also made of polyethylene. However, since
valance tarps are designed for extreme conditions, they are made
using heavy duty polyethylene. Manufacturers make sure that the
material used is premium. Since valance tarps are to be fitted on
high canopies, they are grommeted every 18-20 inches. These closely
spaced grommets allow users to secure the tarp nicely. It also allows
the even spread of force which gives more life and stability to these
tarps. The extra extension on all the four sides also offers very
good coverage. Manufacturers often provide a combo kit along with
valance tarps. These kits contain zipped front and rear panels and
two side panels. When the structure is put up as per instructions,
such kits allow you to create a fully enclosed structure.
Valance
tarps have a number of features that make them ideal for use on roof
tops.
* These tarps are UV treated very
heavily so they can withstand the sun’s rays and heat without
tearing and tattering.
* The white or silver color allows
them to reflect heat so that they are able to provide some amount of
cooling effect.
* Valance tarps are 100%
waterproof.
* High quality valance tarps are
mildew and rot proof.
* High quality valance tarps are
fire retardant.
* The canopy comes with a provision
to cover over the edge so that they can remain standing in spite of
rain, wind and constant sun exposure.
* The overhang on the sides
prevents water seepage through the frame.
Valance
tarps may be used for vehicle storage or for equipment storage ,
besides providing you with an overhead canopy in open places like a
garden or a yard.
