Coffee Pods - What A Waste

Coffee pods are the latest “must have” in the coffee industry. Each serve is individually wrapped to ensure freshness and consistency. But in these times of environmental awareness has anyone thought about land fill waste?

What is a coffee pod?

A coffee pod is a single serve of coffee that can be placed into a coffee machine with an adapted handle. Each dose is exactly the same and the wrapping ensures freshness. There are 2 main types of coffee pod; the ESE compatible tea bag style sealed in foil and the plastic pod that looks similar to a small UHT milk portion. Each time you use a pod you generate a significant amount of non-recyclable waste, both in the pod and the wrapping.

Oze Barbecue - Outdoor Fire, Food And Fun

My earliest recollection of a barbecue was that of a brick unit, set well away from the house, sheltered by a massive ghost gum that provided shade and some protection from the elements. The design was pretty basic, a firebox built under a rectangular steel plate with a flue at the rear that drew the fire into a short chimney and sent smoke spiraling in a heavenly direction.

Operation was also fairly simple, gather a good supply of firewood, get a healthy fire going in the firebox until the steel plate is really hot then dowse the plate with an ample amount of cold water. This effectively cleaned the plate of any grease, grime or other nasties and provided us with a clean, hygienic cooking surface.

Coffee Or Tea Time Is All About Me Time

Nothing says “me time” better than a cup of coffee or tea? A hot, piping cup or mug of the favorite hot beverage alone or with a special friend can seem like an oasis of sanity in the midst of a hectic day. Hot or cold, with some favorite fruit or nut flavors added, can make for a very special time. Both coffee & tea come with caffeine as optional. If you find that caffeine disturbs your sleep or raises your blood pressure, you can opt for the caffeine free version. If, caffeine is not a problem then go for it! Since both coffee & tea contain caffeine naturally, they must undergo a process to remove it. The decaffeination process whether for beans or leaves, takes some of the flavor out of it, so plan to purchase a better grade of coffee when you want the caffeine out.

Local Food - What Is It And What Is It Not?

There are many controversies involved with the concept of local food development. One of the most perplexing to many is exactly what food qualifies and what does not.

One of the problems with understanding the issues involved in the Local Food Movement is that there seems to be a great number of definitions for just what constitutes local food. The Local Food movement is a grassroots type of thing and like most relatively unorganized ideas there are almost as many definitions and opinions as there are advocates. In many ways, it would seem a simple concept. It states that it is better to purchase and consume foods produced locally. There are many reasons given for this, but the definition problems stem from just what is meant by locally.

Kenya food & Dishes

The Kenya food tradition has generally emphasized on feeding the masses as efficiently as possible, with little room for flair or innovation. Rosemary Is A Natural Insect Replant

Rosemary is an aromatic herb from the libiatae (mint) family and is a gardeners friend as it is known to be a natural insect replant. If left unchecked it can grow to over 2m (6.6ft) tall, regular picking and pruning will keep your plant more manageable. It has needle like greygreen leaves and its flowers are small and pale blue/pink in colour. There are several decorative variegated types, but none are as hardy as the ordinary green rosemary.
