Is There A Shortcut To Online Riches?
One of the most endearing things on the Internet is the abundance of money making courses, programs, subscriptions and packs that literally guarantee profits. By including snapshots of their “proof” of profits, they seem to have the best and only answer to anyone looking for a short cut to online riches. These sites are easily distinguishable by their persuasive and often a lengthy one-page sales copy, accompanied by time-limiting sale closing techniques.
I have to admit that I’ve also somewhat been a victim of these “holy grails” for internet marketing success while seeking for something to sell online. Often, I’ve been disappointed with less-than-satisfactory content after making a purchase. Also, information provided in these e-books could easily have been attained online, if only I had searched harder. At other times, the product was just a lead to another more expensive product that I had to buy if I wanted to learn more. This is especially true for low value downloadable digital products.
However, there is one lesson I’ve learned from all these products - You need to WORK on your internet business for it to work for you. An overnight downpour of web traffic, product purchases, and super profits remains a dream. If you are thinking of generating income within a matter of days or weeks, you’d be disappointed pretty soon. Just like any brick and mortar business, making money online takes effort, experience and perseverance.
Let me use my personal experience as an illustration. After purchasing a book on the apparent riches of Pay-Per-Click advertising, I jumped on the bandwagon and started “investing” in pay per click ads. The author of the e-book I purchased had made it seem real easy, straightforward and downright simple. All I needed to do was to promote products from Clickbank as an affiliate and earn profits of between 50% and 70%of each sale.
Realization hit me several days later. Although I had spent a significant amount of money on clicks, I had yet to sell anything. After running some research on my own, it dawned on me that there were many aspects of this “opportunity” that were not addressed in the book. One of the major problems was that the ranking of my ad was affected not only by my choice and combination of keywords, but also by the quality of the landing page. Even though I used the right keywords and wrote the ad really well, I still could not get a top ad ranking as the landing page did not optimize the keywords I used in the ad. Also, if the structure of a landing page did not adhere to Google’s standards, the minimum bid for the ad could increase to $5 per bid!
With landing pages beyond my control, and the stiff competition for keywords, this business opportunity was not all it had been made to seem. For it to work, I needed to strategize and WORK my way to get it right. This could mean creating my own landing page to meet search engine standards. This also meant stringent and holistic testing of my ads, to uncover the ones with the best click through rates. Time, effort and determination were indeed needed for success. Only then, would I get the results I had looked forward to.
In conclusion, while online riches are not impossible, promises of instant riches are likely to be mere fallacies. However, if you pour your heart into your online business, and systematically work at it with the right methods, success will then be within your reach.
