Control Stress Or It Will Control You - Managing Stress
A fundamental flaw in dealing with stress is, not finding out what caused it in the first place. Stress management is probably bad terminology; it implies that you should manage it rather than cure it. It is a fact that all people have some level of stress every day; this stress is usually underlying and causes no problems. The stress which will cause the problems can manifest itself in many ways. If you bottle up stress you will become irritable, distracted, depressed and even volatile.
If a person can not express their frustrations in public they usually take it out on someone or something later, in private. If you are in a working environment you will be unable to vent your anger properly, so it just builds up. This build up of stress can cause severe problems such as heart attacks or a stroke. You need to look for the cause of the problem and deal with this first.
Managing stress with deep breathing, meditation and yoga are all good ways to release stress, unfortunately one of the reasons for the problems is that we don’t have the free time to do anything like this. You must, must give yourself time to relax every day, even if this means having a lie down in a darkened room for half an hour when you get home from work. Without some kind of wind down period every day, there is no way that your body can start to differentiate between work and rest.
You have probably found that you don’t sleep properly; you may even have problems remembering when you actually slept through the night. If your brain can’t relax, neither can your body, people suffering from high stress levels will actually get out of bed feeling more tired than when they got in it. Waking in the night and being unable to get back to sleep for prolonged amounts of time only compounds the problem.
It is impossible for the body to function whilst suffering from high stress levels; you lose coordination and the ability for lateral thinking. By the way, the two things I just mentioned are the key points which help you to drive your car straight.
To control stress you first need to understand it. Stress kills!
Which ever route you decide on for dealing with stress you must realise that it is not a quick fix, your problems may have been building for years, they are not going to be gone over night.
