The Relationship Of Acne And Hormones
Did you know that acne and puberty go hand in hand for many individuals?
It is at this time when the body begins to produce such hormones as androgens. Androgens are the foundation of overproduction or enlargement of the sebaceous glands in those affected by acne. This in turn stimulates the sebum in over production; add to this a slow to almost non-existent exfoliation process, which then leads to acne and blocked pores.
Some females suffer sensitivity to androgens that often cause acne during their menstrual cycles, pregnancy and during menopause. Of course, this is not to say that acne is not caused by increases in hormone levels, rather that of an abnormal reaction to normal hormone levels.
